SPEAKERS will soon be passé. With the sound bug, you can turn your table, or windows into a speaker.
The city-based Hi-tech Solutions will soon be selling a device that transforms any available furniture into a sounding surface. Set to release next month, this device has many applications. "It can be used by malls to announce their wares and attract shoppers," said Mr Moorthy of Hi-Tech. The product features an amplifier and automatic gain control that eliminates noise pollution. Priced at an affordable Rs 3,500, this is just one of the nine innovative products developed by the company.
Students, professors and journalists, who need to take notes and memos often can now go digital with the e-Pen. This uses a regular refill, but sports a small transmitter at its head that communicates the strokes to a computer. When used in conjunction with the Mobile e-Notes Taker, this turns into a powerful tool to transfer the written word to a computer instantly. The e-Notes Taker clips onto a pad and integrates with Microsoft Word. It allows direct transfer of the recorded writing over LAN, e-mail and instant messaging. On-board flash memory stores up to 50 A4-size pages. Powered by two AAA size batteries, the E-notes Taker costs Rs 10,500, while the E-pen costs Rs 7,200.
At Rs 10,500, you can own the literally `light' keyboard. The cigarette lighter shaped device projects a full-size keyboard onto any flat surface. It can be used with a PC, PDA or bluetooth-enabled mobile.
Other gadgets include scanners Docu Scanpen and Port-a-scan. Docu Scanpen features optical character recognition (OCR) imaging software, which conveniently converts graphics into image files. The Bizcard finder marketed by the company is also unique. It offers a special algorithm for Indian cards, developed indigenously by the company's software engineers. "This enables the user to organise cards by designation and pin codes," said Mr Moorthy. The lifetime of this product is 50,000 cards.
Hi-Tech Solutions is backed by the ADS Group, whose revenue was around $4-5 million last year. The company has already sold a few thousand units of its new products.
