Spot rubber maintained a firm trend on Tuesday. According to market circles certain major manufacturers were active on sheet rubber up to Rs 79.25 a kg but they were keeping a low profile. Hence the covering groups and purchase agents were not so enthusiastic though the market witnessed an all-round improvement in prices.

The arrivals to the village markets declined indicating the possibility of a positive trend. Sheet rubber RSS 4 improved to Rs 79.50 and Rs 79.75 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi from Rs 79.00 and Rs 79.50 a kg on Monday.

Futures steady

The NMCE rubber futures were rather steady followed by an almost similar trend in international indices. The near month April delivery contract was traded at Rs 82.20 (82.25), May contract at Rs 84.72 (84.79) and June contract at Rs 86.35 (86.47) per kg for RSS 4.

The transactions were extremely dull at 420 lots registering 91 lots in April, 232 lots in May and 97 lots in June till midday.

The March contract for RSS 4 improved to Rs 79.50 against Rs 78.06 a kg on MCX.

RSS 3 improved marginally to Rs 91.20 from Rs 91.03 a kg at Bangkok spot. The April futures RSS 3 closed at 236.8 Yen (Rs 88.77) against 236.2 Yen a kg at TOCOM.

Physical prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 79.50 (79); RSS-5: Rs 78.50 (78); ungraded: Rs 78 (77); ISNR 20: Rs 78.25 (78) and latex 60% (a litre): Rs 56 (56).
