Vizianagaram, July 24

Under the leadership of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU), the striking workers of three jute mills - East Coast, Aruna and Bobbili - marched to the Vizianagaram Collectorate on Monday in protest against the Government order prohibiting strikes in the mills. Twelve thousand workers from the three mills - all under the same management - are on strike for more than five months seeking better wages. No headway could be made even after several rounds of negotiations. The District Collector, Mr B. Kishore, met the union leaders, Mr Prasad and Mr Sankara Rao, and fixed August 10 for further negotiations.
