Kottayam, Oct. 3

Firm trends in leading global markets during the past few sessions kept domestic spot prices slightly positive on Tuesday. Covering groups and purchase agents were buyers at lower levels but they seemed to be lacking the energy to enhance the volumes above certain levels.

Sheet rubber improved to Rs 78.50 from Rs 78 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi. According to market circles, tapping has resumed in some plantations in the wake of favourable weather but the arrivals have not shown any improvement so far.

Futures gain

The rubber futures also moved up on NMCE. The October contract was quoted at Rs 79.00 (Rs 77.84), November contract at Rs 75.71 (Rs 74.98), December contract at Rs 76.65 (Rs 75.65) and January contract at Rs 77.65 (Rs 77.04) a kg for RSS 4.

Spot prices (Rs a kg) were: RSS-4: 78.50 (78.00); RSS-5: 77.50 (77); ungraded: 76.50 (76); ISNR 20: 77 (76.50) and latex 60 per cent: 60.50 (60).
