As part of Karavali Utsav, a flower show began in Mangalore on Saturday. Nearly 15,000 plants of various varieties are on display at Pilikula Nisarga Dhama at Moodshedde village in Mangalore taluk.

Speaking at the inauguration of the show, Mr J.R. Lobo, Executive Director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society, said the society wants to create a brand for Mangalore tourism. Most of the local species of flowers and orchids are on display at the show, which will continue up to January 2, he said. The society also has plans to open a centre at Nisarga Dhama to study the bio-diversity of Western Ghats, he added. The Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Mr Maheswara Rao, was present.
