THE Fisheries College and Research Institute (FCRI) at Tuticorin is to engage itself in popularising crab and lobster fattening technologies.

According to FCRI Dean, Dr R. Santhanam, the `Bay Lab', assisted by the Department of Bio-technology, Government of India, will start functioning from February 8.

A sum of Rs 25 lakh has been allotted by the department for the project. About 300 youths would be trained over three years, in batches of 30 each, free-of-cost.

They would also be given stipend to meet their food expenses. The training will enable them to start ventures on their own and export to foreign countries, he said.
