HYDERABAD: Crops in an extent of 8,194 hectares have been damaged and seven persons lost their lives in the hailstorm that struck 10 districts in Andhra Pradesh during the second week of this month, according to the State Revenue Minister, Mr D. Prasada Rao.

Making a statement in the Assembly on Thursday, the Minister said that 671 houses were totally damaged and 1,931 partially by heavy winds and rain.

The Minister said that teams of agriculture, horticulture and revenue officials were deployed to estimate the losses incurred. The Government would provide input subsidy to farmers whose crops were damaged and pay a relief amount of Rs 1,500 and Rs 750 for each fully damaged and partially damaged house respectively.

Farmers, who lost livestock would also be compensated, he said.
