Cottage cheese traders busy handling huge orders on Friday at Raja Katra wholesale market in Kolkata. According to the traders, the festival demand is high and prices for the cheese have increased to Rs 70-80 a kg. Normally, the prices do not exceed Rs 65 a kg. Cottage cheese comes from Hooghly, Bardhaman and Midnapore districts of West Bengal. Kolkata is the biggest sweet producer in the country and has four such wholesale markets. Rasgulla and sandesh, the lip-smacking sweets, are made from cottage cheese.
