Mangalore, Oct. 17

THE cashew manufacturers' associations from Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra have decided to endorse the formation of an India Cashew Federation to take care of major issues in the industry.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr K. Prakash Rao, President of the Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers' Association, said the India Cashew Convention 2005 - held in Goa on October 1 and 2 - has adopted a resolution to form the India Cashew Federation.

This federation will help represent all the cashew processors in the country at the national level.

Mr Rao said the federation would develop an action plan to help cashew processors regain their lost market share in the last one decade.

The convention has agreed to form an ad-hoc committee with Mr Giridhar Prabhu, a leading cashew manufacturer from Mangalore, as its convenor. Goa has been chosen as the initial location for the federation's operations, he said.

Each participating association has agreed to contribute on a pro-rata basis to create a budget for initial funding. The Karnataka Cashew Manufacturers' Association has been entrusted with the task of co-ordinating with other associations, which were not present at the convention, to be a part of the federation, he said.

Over 150 participants from Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh attended the convention, Mr Rao said.
