Ichalkaranji (Maharashtra) based electric vehicle manufacturer Emmel Vheelers is set to expand its presence in the country and launch a high power electric motorcycle amongst several new products in the next few months.

Mr Manoj Laxmeshwar, Managing Director, Emmel, said that the company currently sold its range of electric 2-wheelers in Maharashtra and Karnataka. “We will increase our dealer network from 25 at present to 100 by mid 2010, and expand into Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Delhi,” he said. The company, which entered the market 18 months ago makes three brands and has sold around 1000 units till now.

The new high power bike which will run on a battery driven DC motor will have a maximum speed of 80 km per hour and run 80 km on a single charge, Mr Laxmeshwar said. Emmel is also coming out with a personal transporter like the ‘Segway' a high-power e-scooter, a hybrid 3-wheeler and accessories like batteries, fast chargers and controllers.
