Mangalore, Jan. 27

THE Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) seems to have taken the first step in creating a brand image for the profession.

The Central Council of ICAI has taken a decision to prefix `CA' to the name of the professional, as in the case of a medical practitioner or an engineer.

Mr G. Ramaswamy, Member of the Central Council of ICAI, told

Business Line

here on Friday that the Central Council members have accepted the proposal to prefix `CA' to the names of the professionals. This came into being last month.

Such an initiative will help in creating a brand image for the profession, he said.

"Central Council members like me have taken an initiative in prefixing `CA' to our names," Mr Ramaswamy said. This initiative has been gaining acceptance among other members of ICAI, he added.

It may be mentioned here that Mr T.N. Manoharan, the ICAI Vice-President, had told

Business Line

during his visit to Mangalore in September last that ICAI would be projecting chartered accountancy as a brand. During the interaction he had mentioned about the proposals for prefixing `CA' to the name of the professional and a logo for CAs.
