Top groups such as Tata and Reliance generated more revenue last year than the total expenditure of Maharashtra which, with total expenditure of Rs 74,247 crore, was way ahead of Uttar Pradesh at second place, by about Rs 15,000 crore. Andhra Pradesh, at number three, spent Rs 47,000 crore, while Tamil Nadu and West Bengal spent less than Rs 40,000 crore each. Total sales last year of Reliance Industries Ltd alone were Rs 73,181 crore, while sales of even a very small number of Tata group companies (Tata Motors, Tata Steel, TCS, VSNL, Tata Chemicals and Tata Teleservices) added up to Rs 52,879 crore.
