Kolkata-based Emami Ltd is now looking to spread its wings to overseas shores. The company is learnt to be in talks to acquire a manufacturing unit in Hungary. Emami intends to use the facility to manufacture its products to cater to the European market. "We are in talks with a Hungary-based firm to acquire a manufacturing unit," said Mr Manish Goenka, Director, Emami.

The company is also keen on acquiring companies/brands in other markets such as West Asia, Africa, and the EU. Further, the company is also eyeing acquisitions in the personal and health care domain in India. "Our Fair and Handsome fairness cream has done well and we are now looking to add more brands to our skin-care category," Mr Goenka said.

Further, the company is also sprucing up its ayurveda business. It has created a healthcare division under which it plans to market its ayurvedic products. "We are expecting to clock business worth Rs 300 crore in the next three years," Mr Goenka said. The company currently is in the process of launching five products including cough syrups, digestives, and a memory tonic in the Northern States of Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab and Delhi by next month. It further plans to add five to eight new products to its ayurveda basket every year and aims to have 25 products in the domain in the next three years. The company, Mr Goenka said, would support its ayurveda business with a marketing spend of Rs 10 crore this year.

The company is also foraying into other FMCG categories including the toothpowder segment. Apart from `Red toothpowder,' other products such as honey, blood purifier and liver syrups and tablets are also on the anvil. "The toothpowder market is around Rs 500 crore and we see immense potential in the segment," said Mr Goenka. Emami is also considering shifting some of its existing FMCG products to the healthcare division apart from test marketing its ayurveda spas and clinics in Kolkata.
