Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd has reported a profit after tax of Rs 18.81 crore on net sales turnover of Rs 179.32 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2006.

During the corresponding period in the previous year the company reported a net profit of Rs 13.14 crore on net sales of Rs 172.79 crore.

According to a press release from the company, it has raised pulpwood plantation on 10,000 acres through farm forestry and captive plantation programmes.

The Rs 565-crore mill development plan, which envisages expansion of in-house pulping capacity to 800 tonnes a day from the present 520 tonnes through the elemental chlorine-free process, will be completed by June 2007. The production capacity will go up to 2.3 lakh tonnes a year from 2.45 lakh tonnes.
