For the first time, TVS Motor Company has reported monthly motorcycle sales exceeding one lakh units. In September, the company sold 1.06 lakh motorcycles, which was 42 per cent higher than in September last year.

Sales of all two wheelers of the company grew 34 per cent to 1.62 lakh units, according to a press release from the company.

The company's senior Vice-President, Mr R. Chandramouli, told

on Tuesday that two models, TVS StaR City in the economy segment and TVS Apache in the premium segment, clocked sales of 75,000 and 16,000 respectively.

Mr Chandramouli said that the electric start version of TVS StaR City met with very good demand, especially in the North. This is the first time an electric start is being given on an entry-level model, he said.

TVS Scooty sales stood at 24,890 units in September 2006 compared to 22,697 units in the same period last year, recording a growth of 10 per cent. The company will soon launch a 2-stroke variant of the Scooty brand.
