Chennai, Oct. 20
Dr Amit N. Patel, Director, Centre for Cardiac Cell Theory, and an internationally acclaimed cardiothoracic surgeon and pioneer of stem cell research, has joined the board of directors of the Chennai-based LifeCell.
LifeCell will utilise Dr Patel's expertise for its stem cell operations, including the transplant centre coming up at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai.
At a press conference here, Mr S. Abhaya Kumar, Vice-Chairman, LifeCell, said that the company did not want to remain just a "warehouse" for stem cells, but intended to work at the cutting edge of the technology. The induction of Dr Patel, who has performed over 100 adult stem cell surgeries worldwide, would help boost LifeCell's research capabilities, he said.
