Schwing Stetter India Pvt Ltd, which is expanding its construction equipment manufacturing capacity, hopes to start manufacturing truck-mounted boom pump from next year for the export market.

Sharing the company's plans at a press conference, Mr Anand Sundaresan, Managing Director, Schwing Stetter India, said that the company is inaugurating a new concrete batching plant manufacturing unit on Saturday at the Sipcot Industrial Estate in Irrungattukottai near Chennai.

Batching plants

Schwing Stetter India, is a manufacturer of a wide range of batching plants, transit mixers and concrete pumps and recycling pumps.

Starting in 1999, with a single facility spread over 10 acres and a production area of one lakh sq ft, where it made concrete pumps, transit mixers and batching plants, the company now has separate facilities for each product line. Its sales in 1999 was Rs 9 crore and in 2006 it reported Rs 550 crore sales.

Truck mixers

With more companies in cement industry and construction getting into using ready mix concrete (RMC), Schwing Stetter is looking at significant growth. It made 1,000 truck mixers in 2005, and 2000 truck mixers in 2006. The company expects the numbers to grow 1.5-2 times in the coming year, he said.

Expansion in India

Mr Jochen Goerlich, Chairman, Schwing Stetter, said that the company, a subsidiary of the Germany-based Schwing Stetter GmbH, hopes to continue its expansion in India.

Having set up business in China earlier than in India, he said, "India is a completely different world. It is a better option." Because in China, the industry is heavily regulated and if a company is successful, it is more regulated to support the local industry. Its India operations will soon be Schwing Stetter's biggest around the world. Schwing Stetter has manufacturing units in 11 countries and is present in 145 countries.
