THE much-awaited Italijet scooters from the Pune-based Kinetic Engineering Ltd (KEL), was unveiled at the company showroom in Pune on Tuesday by Mr Arun Firodia, Chairman, Kinetic Group.

Talking to newspersons, Ms Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Joint Managing Director, KEL, said the first model to hit the domestic market would be the 150 cc Millennium, followed by the Euro, in Diwali, and the 250 cc Jupiter. Millennium, priced at Rs 49,000, will be available in black, red and grey.

Ms Motwani said that KEL had received the dies and moulds of the models and that the scooters would be manufactured at their Pitampur factory. The production will cater to the domestic and export market.

The Italijet series, seven in all, will range from 50-250 cc and be priced between Rs 25,000 and Rs 75,000, for domestic consumers.

Ms Motwani said the company would be opening 40 showrooms under the banner Kinetic Automatics. Presently, showrooms are at Rajkot, Goa, Bangalore and Pune. While the showroom in Pune is company-owned, the rest will be on a franchisee basis. There will be 400 dealers in the country, Ms Motwani said.

She said the company was targeting sales of about 1.3 lakh scooters and one lakh mopeds and motorbikes (combined) for the current fiscal year. She also unveiled the new logo, `New innovations and change'.
