TATA Steel's board has approved the setting up of a large integrated greenfield plant in Jharkhand.

"The proposed steel plant will have an initial capacity of five million tonnes per annum to be completed in four years which will be extended to a capacity of 10 million tonnes per annum in the subsequent five years. The capital cost would be approximately Rs 15,000-20,000 crore in the first phase and Rs 30,000-35,000 crore on completion of the second phase," an official statement said.

According to the statement, the company plans to commence a detailed study to identify a suitable location, infrastructure, captive raw materials required and other facilities and clearances.
