Ahmedabad, Sept. 21

THE Dahej liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal of Petronet LNG Ltd, which was damaged last Saturday, has received a new consignment of gas on Wednesday.

"The vessel has berthed at the jetty and started discharging cargo. The damage was not as bad as to suspend operations. The terminal is operational and there is no disruption," Mr P. Dasgupta, Managing Director, Petronet, told Business Line from Delhi. Meanwhile, the company has abandoned plans to build breakwater facilities at the Dahej complex, he said.

"There is no significant current in the sea near the jetty to warrant construction of the breakwater," he said.

Asked if the breakwater could have prevented the damage caused by the tugboat that rammed into the jetty last Saturday, he said that the cause of the accident was high winds of over 40 knots in velocity. "Even if we had a breakwater, it could not have prevented the accident as that was caused due to high velocity winds," he added.
