VOLKSWAGEN Group company SkodaAuto India announced on Saturday the commissioning of its expanded assembly line by Mr Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic.
The new line would double production capacity from 15,000 units to 30,000 units. Work for the expansion was started in March this year and hadbeen completed ahead of schedule, the company said in a statement.
The expansion of the plant, which is located at Aurangabad, was necessitated for the arrival of new technologies and products.
Mr Vaclav Klaus said, "We are pleased and honoured to see part of our country functioning in a very successful manner in India. Commissioning of this new capacity is indeed a memorable moment for SkodaAuto India and the Czech Republic."
In his address, Mr Horst Muehl, Chairman, SkodaAuto, said, "The market reactions to our products in the last four years have crossed all our expectations. Our plant here in Aurangabad manufactured and delivered to customers in India its 20,000th Octavia in the middle of this year. The figure will cross 25,000 by year-end.''
Skoda's Aurangabad plant is its only plant outside of Europe and will be made into a manufacturing hub for the South Asian region.
