The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has registered sales turnover of Rs 7,524 crore during the current financial year from April to December as against Rs 6,976 crore during the previous fiscal, according to a press release.

The inventory, which was about 7.5 lakh tonnes, has been brought down to 2.2 lakh tonnes in spite of the recessionary conditions. The expansion works are also proceeding smoothly to double the capacity of the plant from the present 3 mt. During the calendar year 2009, 3.3 lakh cubic metres civil works, 91,582 tonnes of structural erection and 68,432 tonne of equipment erection were executed.

The release adds that record performances in structural erection (15,000 tonnes in September) and equipment erection (10,000 tonnes in December) were the best in the industry.
