New Delhi, July 2 The Group of Ministers (GoM), set up to recommend changes in the National Mineral Policy, is likely to meet again next Friday to deliberate on the contentious issue of iron ore exports.

Major differences had cropped up between the domestic steel and mining industry following the imposition of export tax on iron ore in this year’s Union Budget. Steel manufacturers, headed by the Indian Steel Alliance (ISA), had been lobbying hard in favour of the tax. The mining industry, represented by the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI), had continued to make representations for withdrawal of the export tax.
