IT was a dream come true for children battling for life at Mumbai's Tata Memorial Hospital when they got to meet Mickey Mouse, Minnie and Donald Duck.

The Walt Disney entourage, which is currently touring India, fulfilled the wishes of these kids in partnership with Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Make-a-Wish, which has partnered with Walt Disney's social service arm, Outreach, globally, for the last 25 years, announced its partnership with Outreach India.

The company also launched another initiative called VoluntEAR, by which its employees in India would dedicate their free time to volunteer for the various activities conducted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"Globally, our employees have contributed 1,42,000 hours for social causes, which encompass varied activities that range from organising events to holding story-telling sessions," said Mr Rajat Jain, Managing Director, Walt Disney India.

Ms Sharmishtha Adyanthaya, CEO, Make-A-Wish, said that the interaction with the Walt Disney characters was the beginning of the organisation's association with Walt Disney in India, and the coming months would see the unfolding of a number of such events.

The Disney entourage will visit orphanages and hospitals supported by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. "In Ahmedabad, we are organising a kite flying festival in which the Disney characters would participate, while in cities such as Delhi and Hyderabad, we are planning to have outdoor meets with these characters, where the children would get to take pictures with the characters and would also be given Disney mementos."
