THE Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has appealed to pensioners to apply for the National Social Security Number.

According to a press note from the office of the Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, Chennai Region and Pondicherry, the EPFO has launched a project for the allotment of National Social Security Number which will help faster release of pension through electronic clearing system, transfer of pension account from one bank to another and serve as an identity card.

The last date for applying is March 31, 2006. Pensioners can approach the respective bank branches for the application form.

According to the press note, a specimen application form and an original will be issued. Pensioners should fill up the details in the specimen form but affix a passport size colour photograph and sign on the original. This is to prevent overwriting and errors on the original form. Pensioners can also approach the EPFO and bank officials for assistance.
