Aimed at launching a mission on holistic rural development, the National Productivity Council (NPC), a national level organisation to promote productivity culture in the country, has decided to join hands with the non-governmental organisations.

The plan to launch a mission has come up after realising the need for a holistic approach to rural development through a multi-pronged strategy towards facilitating rural cluster development with productivity and information technology, the NPC Director General, Dr Kamal Taori, told newspersons here on Wednesday.

He said the mission would be launched in select States and would aim at improving the per capita income and quality of life of masses living in villages.

The mission for Andhra Pradesh is also being prepared to be ready shortly, he said.

Dr Taori stressed on the need to disseminate to rural India the advantages of modern technology and globalisation to ensure a balanced and sustainable economic growth. He said the mission was an attempt towards addressing the issues pertaining to rural development through a turnkey consultancy approach with productivity and IT as the binding and essential enablers.

Key objectives

The key objectives of the mission include increasing rural GDP, socio-economic conditions of rural areas, employment opportunities, productive use of local resources and improving the productivity and quality of work life, Dr Taori said.

According to him, the mission aims to work in a collaborative manner with all stakeholder groups including the State and Central Government, district administration, NGOs, corporate houses, academicians and social workers.

Further, the NPC would work with the stakeholders of disaster management, micro financing, provision for urban amenities and rural amenities (PURA), Non-Resident Indians for total rural improvement, model rural clusters, motivating corporate and business houses to adopt clusters and environment management, he said.
