Tourism Malaysia, a body under the Malaysian Tourism Ministry, will target high-end tourists from India to increase their number of tourist arrivals who spend more and stay for longer periods, according to Mr Mirza Mohammed Taiyab Beg, Deputy Director General, Tourism Malaysia.

He said at a press conference that the organisation would embark on a major marketing campaign in India to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2007. An investment of Rs 12 crore would go into the campaign, and the Ministry expects to attract more than 350,000 Indian tourists to Malaysia by 2007 as a result of this. To facilitate comfortable tourism traffic, the existing i-visa facility, which allows for Indians to apply for a visa to Malaysia online, would be updated soon, he said. The new facility, e-visa, would be easier to use, and the visa could be realised in a matter of hours in some cases.
