The Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has forwarded to all political parties, contesting the ensuring assembly election in the State, a `20 points charter of demands', on behalf of trade and industrial community, seeking an assurance by them in their election manifesto to take all steps to implement them.

In a statement here, the Chamber presenting its charter of demands, has called for enhancement of the sales tax exemption limit to Rs 10 lakh annual turnover, scrapping of additional sales tax, resale tax, create congenial atmosphere sans any corrupt practices, introduce a fresh "Samathan scheme" to generate additional tax revenue for the Government and facilitate winding up of many long pending tax disputes, withdraw the condition requiring remittance of 25 per cent of the disputed tax amount for preferring the first appeal and 100 per cent for second appeal under the sales tax law and other such severe procedural bottlenecks in accordance with the High Court direction, offer credit facilities to small-scale industries at low interest rates through State owned financial institutions, reduce power tariff for small-scale industries forthwith.

The Chamber has further called for the spread of the growth of information technology industries throughout the State by setting of full fledged IT Parks and Tidel Parks in Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin with all required infrastructures. Also to set up comprehensive agricultural marketing yards with latest storing and marketing facilities under the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Produce Marketing ( R ) Act and collect marketing cess only for the services provided in such yards and dispense with the existing procedure of levying cess on all agricultural products.

Constitute high-level advisory committee to settle the issues across the table in order to attract more and more industrial investments into the State.

Additionally the Chamber has urged motivation of the district collectors, reinstate the Tamil Nadu Legislative Council, upgrade Madurai airport as an international airport. Also renovate Vagaikulam airport near Tuticorin/Tirunelveli and introduce daily flights from there to Chennai and other major cities.

Set up aviation university in Madurai to provide comprehensive training to aircraft pilots, technicians and ground staff; inter-link the major rivers in the State, modernise Tuticorin port on the lines of international ports for container movements, take effective steps to make Nanguneri Hi-tech Industrial Park functional without any further delay.
