The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and the National Intellectual Property Organisation (NIPO) have made a case for legislation on data protection. NIPO is of the view that the existing provisions of the Indian Copyright Act and the IT Act are insufficient to protect the interest of the database owners. The FIEO Northern Region Chairman, Dr R.K.Dhawan, said at a seminar here that there was a need for an awareness campaign to bring about an intellectual property revolution in the country. He exhorted non-governmental organisations to support the efforts of the Government in this regard.
