The average salary offered to the 2006 batch of GLIM is Rs 7.2 lakh per annum

Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) each with an institute in Shanghai and one in Europe to give a more global perspective to the course in the following year, according to Dr Bala V. Balachandran, Founder and Honorary Dean, GLIM.

The institute has MoUs with the Stuart School of Business, affiliated to the Illinois Institute of Technology; Yale School of Management, Yale University; and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

after the convocation function held for the 2006 batch of the institute's students, Dr Balachandran said in the following year, the institute would be developing marketing and sales as its core competency. "Every institute has its core competency, and this will be ours," he said.

In this endeavour, the institute will appoint two chairpersons, one of which will be Mr K.B. Chandra Sekar, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jam Cracker Inc., US.

Asked about the land on Old Mahabalipuram Road pending allotment to the institute, Dr Mr Balachandran said he expects the land to be allotted in June, and the institute will be operational there one year after the allotment.

He said the average salary offered to the 2006 batch of GLIM is Rs 7.2 lakh per annum and that the placements were in every sector of the industry, including automobiles, FMCG, peripherals and software companies.

Mr Adi Godrej, Chairman, Godrej Group, who delivered the convocation address, said the opportunity for these graduates is huge, with India making strides in software, pharmaceuticals, BPO and ITes. He said that in addition to this, India is likely to emerge as a major low-cost-high-quality global hub for outsourced engineering services and research and development.
