Kamballoor Government High School, Kasaragode, won the

Malayala Manorama

prize for the best water-environment-friendly school in the State under the `Palathulli' project during the academic year 2005-2006. The award carries Rs 1 lakh. In the college category, the first, second and third prizes went to Thiruvananthapuram Regional Engineering College, Ernakulam Sacred Heart College and Palakkad Victoria College respectively. These colleges will get Rs 1 lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000. Ms Najeema has been selected for the special award for teachers. About 1,500 schools participated in the programme as against 300 last year, said Mr K.M. Mathew, Chief Editor. The `Palathulli' project aims to create awareness on water conservation and rainwater harvesting in educational institutions.
