Tata Consultancy Services Ltd has helped the Andhra Pradesh Government bring in transparency in the implementation of the ambitious AP Employment Guarantee Scheme.

Through technology, it is now possible to better monitor the progress of projects and track the job movements online.

The Secretary Rural Development, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Mr K. Raju said that the solutions developed by TCS in partnership with the State Government had ensured that there were no slips in the project implementation.

The solutions actually help pinpoint the nature of works taken up and the beneficiaries. In contrast, in the past there was arbitrariness.

With the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme gaining momentum, the Department of Rural Development has deployed a software solution to ensure effective implementation.

Giving details of the Web site www.nrega.ap.gov.in, Mr Raju said it offers complete information pertaining to job cardholders, household employment details, ongoing works and overall status.

Online record

Apart from maintaining the muster roll and details of payments made to workers, including bank account numbers, it has effectively streamlined the workflow.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Raju said the new system was meant to ensure that contractors and vested interests did not hijack the scheme.

The State Department had so far issued 39.54 lakh job cards through which 4.91 lakh households had benefited and employment provided to 7.37 lakh people.

In all, 22,063 works were launched and Rs 35 crore disbursed as wages with a majority earning a minimum wage of Rs 98 a day against the stipulated Rs 80.
