The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has put in place 56 testing squads to ensure the quality of essential items being sold during the Onam festival. The arrangement is over and above the prevailing testing systems. The squads will visit the State-run Maveli, Laabham and Sabari stores every week and examine whether quality of the items conform to the standards set by the corporation, according to an official release.

Those items that require further quality testing will be sent to either regional analytical laboratories or other laboratories approved by the Union Government. The corporation has instructed withdrawal of sub-standard items from the stores and supply of fresh stocks without delay.
