United Technologies Corporation and the University of Hyderabad announced on Wednesday the setting up of the Pratt & Whitney Endowed Chair in Science and Engineering.
The Registrar of University of Hyderabad, Dr Y. Narasimhulu, said that they were proud to be associated with United Technologies recognised by Nasscom, as the pioneer in developing the avionics industry in India.
The endowment will help the department offer advanced courses in Materials Management and Nanotechnologies.
The President and Chief Operating Officer of United Technologies, Mr Louis Chenevert, said, "We will have a continuing demand for world class talent and hope that through this endowment we will help the department continue to grow and attract faculty and students that will help both UTC and Hyderabad."
The Vice-Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Dr Syed E. Hasnain, said the UTC endowment also builds the reputation of the university as a premier research university, thus attracting talent and enable growth of the fast growing engineering services industry. Pratt & Whitney, known for aircraft engines, is part of the $43 billion US major.
