The Government has amended rule 19 of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules so as to enable the Government and Directorate-General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) to get all the data from licensees or lessee, free of cost as and when they are acquired and become available.

An official statement issued on Friday said that all non-proprietary data can be disclosed by the Government at any time.

Besides, proprietary data can be disclosed with the consent of the licencees or lessee at any time and after five years from the date from which such data becomes available or termination of licence or lease, whichever is earlier at the discretion of the Government.

"The step has been taken to promote exploration and production activities in the country, strengthen the DGH with more powers apart from creating a national data repository by DGH to get data from NOCs and private companies for all acreages held by them from time to time.

This will also encourage effective use of available data in the country in promoting efficient exploration and production," the statement added.
