Hosiery town goes still

KNITWEAR LABOUR'S STRIKE: Garment manufacturing activity came to a halt in the hosiery exporting town of Tirupur on Monday with over 2.5 lakh knitwear industry workers staying away from work in response to a one-day strike called by major knitwear labour unions,

our Coimbatore Bureau reports.

The six-union joint action committee had called for the 24-hour strike in protest against delay in the finalisation of a wage agreement for the hosiery workers whose last wage pact expired in May this year. Trade union sources said that the strike was total.
