Plans to tie up with Govt for the Rs 12-cr project

Bharathiar University (BU) is planning to tie-up with the State Government for establishing the BU-Elcot R&D Techno Park city within its campus.

Dr G. Thiruvasagam, Vice-Chancellor, BU, has within a month of assuming charge, set the project, which was put in the backburner for over a decade, in motion. "We have just started the ground levelling work in about 25 acres of the 109 acres earmarked for this project. We would like to moot this project jointly with the Government of Tamil Nadu. We are in talks," Dr Thiruvasagam told Business Line. The total project cost has been estimated at Rs 12 crore.

Elcot officials have undertaken a survey of the proposed site. The Vice-Chancellor, clarified that the building structure would have to be put up by the companies taking the land, while the promoters ensure to provide the basic amenities.
