The Andhra Pradesh Government has sanctioned Rs 6.04 crore as Central grant to support the marketing efforts of handloom organisations and the APCO.

The grant is under the Deen Dayal Hathkargh Protsahan Yojana (DDHPY), a comprehensive marketing incentive scheme, launched in 2001, to benefit handloom weavers.

It is for the years 2004-05 & 2005-06, covering 339 Primaries and APCO, a State Government release said.

The effort is to provide marketing support to the primary cooperative handloom organisations (Primaries) and enable them to provide continuous employment to their members. The amount would be release shortly to the Primaries and APCO, according to Mr T. Satyanarayana, Commissioner and Director of Handlooms & Textiles.

The DDHPY scheme would end on March 31, 2007 and involves a 50:50 fund commitment between the Centre and State. The main objectives of scheme are to upgrade skills and knowledge of weavers along with providing basic inputs for product development and diversification.

The other objectives are to strengthen the handloom organizations and provide suitable market incentives to attract buyers for these products, the release said.
