Kerala Tourism will develop a campaign to overcome the possible setbacks caused by incidences of chikungunya in the State.

This was decided today at a meeting of tourism industry stakeholders in Alappuzha, convened by Mr B. Suman, Director (Kerala Tourism), according to a release.

The marketing campaign will promote Alappuzha as a safe destination for tourists, it added.

Those who attended the meeting also decided to create a `plastic-free Alappuzha,' besides deciding that a garbage and sewage disposal system needs to be developed for the town.

The stakeholders will voluntarily avoid the use of plastic carry bags and bottles.

Industry players will also create awareness about the need for a `plastic-free Alappuzha' among tourists and among those employed in the tourism sector, the release said.
