A trade and business delegation from Barcelona will be arriving here on a three-day visit on October 28 to explore mutual investment and business opportunities between Spain and India. The delegation consisting of representatives from the Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the City Council of Barcelona will also participate in a one-day networking session with their Indian counterparts on Saturday. The delegation will also participate in the Bangalore IT.in.

According to Ms Surbhi Sharma, Secretary General of Interactive Technology Software and Media Association, (ITSMA),"the visit is an important step forward for the Indian market in relation with EU market as the relationships are not very strong as yet.''

"Barcelona, especially allows access to other Mediterranean countries as well as Latin American markets," she said. ITSMA is a non-profit association promoting the business of Indian SMEs with a strong focus on EU while not ignoring other continents. Ms Sharma said Barcelona, which has a large number of Indians having their business, in the last five years has embarked on a major project of transforming 200 hectares of industrial land in the city centre into a privileged environmental location called 22@Barcelona to develop it into a technological village. This is one of the largest innovation areas of Europe with 4.5 million inhabitants and corporations such as Telefonica, Yahoo, Microsoft, Alstom, Ericsson and Novartis, Universities and technology transfer centres mainly focusing on Media, ICT, energy and bio-engineering, she said.
