With increase in demand for natural products, big pharma companies across the globe have shifted their attention towards them and are increasing efforts to finding new bioactive molecules from them.

The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), in association with the National Center for Natural Products research (NCNPR), University of Mississippi is organising a two-day international conference called `New bioactive molecules in pharmaceutical research - Contribution of natural products' in this connection.

The event, which got under way today, focuses on natural products. It is the third in a series.

The conference is being attended by leaders in the field of natural product chemistry from all over the world and around 350 delegates from academia and industry.


It includes 30-40 foreign delegates from countries such as the US, Canada, France, South Korea and South Africa. IICT has signed an MoU with NCNPR, according to Dr J.S. Yadav, Director.

NCNPR is the only national centre in the US dedicated to natural products.

The MoU will enable joint research programmes for bilateral exchange of scientists and research in the area of new drug development, he told newspersons.
