THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Noted cancer researcher and biomedical scientist, Dr M. Radhakrishna Pillai, has been appointed Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), here.

Dr Pillai is currently Head of Molecular Medicine, Drug Development and Chemoinformatics at the Regional Cancer Centre here, an official spokesman said.

He has to his credit 125 articles that appeared in leading international research publications. Dr Pillai was chosen for the Indian Council Medical Research awards for cancer research, besides being selected for the Government of India Career Development Award for outstanding contribution to medical biotechnology.

An expert on human papilomaviruses, Dr Pillai coordinates the Department of Biotechnology's national cervical cancer control and papilomavirus vaccine development programmes.
