A BILL seeking to amend the Andhra Pradesh Exhibition of Films on Television Screen through Video Cassette Recorders (Regulation) Act, 1993 so as to curb video piracy effectively was introduced in the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

The Bill seeks to incorporate VCD and DVD under the definition of "Cable Operator" in the original Act on the lines of an ordinance promulgated by the Tamil Nadu Government.

The 1993 act deals with grant of licence to video libraries and regulation of exhibition of films on television only through VCRs. As per the Act, the licensees of video libraries including cable operators shall, on demand, produce the letter of consent from the copyright owner of the cinematograph film or assignee.
