HYDERABAD: Southern Splendour, the circular train connecting all the popular tourism sites in the South, is finally taking shape. A plan to form a special purpose vehicle is being finalised to make the train a reality.

The Rs 40-crore project is a joint enterprise of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh.

Making a presentation at a review meeting, Mr T.V.N. Rao, Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation, said that the luxury train would have 12 air-conditioned coaches.

"We have got the nod from the Union Government," he told the review meeting attended by Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister. After the presentation, the Chief Minister told the tourism officials not to encourage contract appointments in the department. He suggested that the department went for outsourcing of its human resources requirements.
