HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has directed Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (AP Genco) to take up the 1,600 MW Super Critical Thermal Power Plant at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district.

He has directed the officials concerned to commence work immediately and commission the plant by 2009.

Speaking to newspersons, Mr K. Rosaiah, Minister for Finance, said that the project would be taken up through international competitive bidding route. The Government hopes that the project would get the `mega project' tag, which would result in Customs exemptions.
