Mumbai, June 12

KESARI Tours, a travel and tourism company, and Hospitality Training Institute, engaged in hospitality education, have joined hands to start the Kesari HTI Travel Academy in the city.

The academy will offer a one-year job-oriented diploma in travel and tourism management, which includes a six-month paid internship at Kesari.

To be eligible for the course, candidates should have cleared their HSC exams, and should be proficient in spoken English. The institute will train candidates to be tour leaders as well as to man operations at travel offices. The course fee is pegged at Rs 18,000-Rs 19,000, which each candidate would be able to recover during the course of his/her training.

Ms Veena Patil, Director, Kesari Tours, said, "Tourism is poised for a massive growth in the country and this is likely to throw up new career opportunities in hospitality and tourism. Despite the existence of a number of travel and tourism institutes, the country is faced with a huge shortfall in the availability of quality personnel. This is due mainly to the gap between the course syllabus and industry requirements, which will be met by the Kesari HTI Travel Academy."

According to Ms Patil, there was a scarcity of tour leaders who would be in charge of conducting sight-seeing tours.

Mr Domnic Costabir, Director, Hospitality Training Institute, said, "HTI has been providing trained personnel to the hospitality industry".
