COMPANIES located in Hyderabad, followed by Bangalore and Delhi, are expected to increase hiring in the next six months.

According to a TeamLease Gallup Survey on business and employment expectations among private sector companies in seven cities, Kolkata and Hyderabad have displayed a sharp increase in the business confidence index, thus resulting in a bullish outlook in employment in the two cities as well. The index ranges from a low of 36 for Chennai to a high of 89 for Hyderabad.

IT and ITeS companies have displayed the highest hiring confidence, followed by financial service companies. The study, covering 530 companies, found that most of the hiring is expected to be for permanent staff at the junior to mid-levels. The study also revealed that although companies in the 100-250 employee size appear to have the most optimistic business outlook for the next six months, they are still not as confident as the bigger companies when it comes to hiring.

The 1,000 plus-employee companies have displayed a high hiring index (81) as against companies with 100-250 employees showing a hiring index of 58.

The survey also shows that larger companies have been more aggressive in their hiring than had been estimated in the previous study six months back.

Ms Nirupama V.G., Executive Associate Director, TeamLease Services, explains the reason for this variance in the trend, "That's because smaller companies are shy of recruiting and the bigger companies land up hiring more."
