THE Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will inaugurate the 21st annual conference of Chief Commissioners and Directors-General of Income-Tax on Wednesday.

The two-day conference would deliberate on the strategies for maximising tax collections, reduction of arrears, and widening of tax base, an official release said.

Further, the progress of computerisation and major action areas for 2005-06 are to be discussed.

The release also said that the conference would focus on an important issue of preventive vigilance in the functioning of income-tax department.

Mr S.S. Palanimanickam, Minister of State for Finance (Revenue), will deliver the valedictory address on July 7.
