HYDERABAD: After two days of incessant rains, farmers in the whole of Andhra Pradesh, barring a few districts, heaved a sigh of relief.

"It is a clear indication that things are brightening in Telangana and coastal areas. The rainfall has been copious," Ms Poonam Malakondaiah, Commissioner for Agriculture, said. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, she said the rainfall proved to be very useful. Barring Kurnool, most of the mandals in other Rayalaseema districts were left out with the windfall.

Out of 575 mandals, 342 of which were in Telangana, received more than 10 mm rainfall.

She said arrangements had been made to meet the demand for seeds and fertilisers.

Stating that there was a likelihood of pest attacks in the next fortnight, she said the department would launch an awareness campaign.
