THE Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) here is organising a one-day policy dialogue on electric vehicles and alternative fuel technologies in the Indian Transport Sector on Thursday.

There is a growing attention towards alternatives for conventional fuels in the transport sector. With the rising crude oil prices, the use of available alternatives not only provides a safer and cleaner environment but also reduces the dependency of the transport sector on regular gasoline.

Electric vehicles are one such alternative that addresses local environmental concerns including solution to the congestion issues on the roads of urban India.

This, apart, electric vehicles also offer lower costs in comparison to vehicles dependent on fossil fuels , a press release from ASCI said.

However, lack of strategic policy environment and clear business models hinder their availability, distribution and consumption.
